Volunteer at UHS
Parents play a critical role in the University High School community as volunteers and champions of our students, faculty and staff. Whether parents choose to be a member of our General Board, Site Council, staff the UHS front desk, or plan an amazing Grad Night Party, we make a difference at UHS. Your child’s high school career will go by fast. Get involved and make the most of their time at UHS!

Please join us in making University High School an engaging and vibrant place for our students to learn. Volunteering is also a great way to connect with other UHS parents and strengthen our ties between students, parents, and the school community as a whole.
Campus Volunteer Opportunities
Our campus-based volunteer opportunities vary from a regular commitment helping out the UHS front office to assisting our College & Career Counseling Center.
The UHS College & Career Counseling Center (the CCCC) requests parent assistance with mentoring opportunities, speaker series, or brown bag lunches with students. Sometimes the CCCC needs assistance with mock interviews to help students prepare for internship and college interviews.

General Board & Grad night Opportunities
There are 2 committees that work diligently behind the scenes to create opportunities for our students. One is our wonderful Grad Night Committee that puts on an incredible party for our seniors every year. The other committee is our Teacher Grants Committee that reviews funding requests from teachers and staff for classroom grants. We will have a special committee for the 2025-26 school year to help with planning and activities associated with the UHS 50th Anniversary celebration. Additionally, we are judging interest in starting an external grant writing/ fundraising committee to secure funds for current and future UHSPA engagements.
Parents are the UHSPA’s General Board. Members of the General Board attend monthly All Parents Meetings (UHSPA meetings), vote on important matters such as budgets and grant awards, and provide support to Executive Board. General Board members represent each class year at UHS. Commitment for General Board members runs 1-2 hours per month. Click for volunteer sign up.
UHSPA Executive Board Member
The UHSPA Executive Board consists of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. For the 2025-26 school year, we elected a President and Treasurer in May but still have open positions for Vice President and Secretary. If you are interested in filling one of these open spots, please reach out directly to uhspa@uhs-pa.org.
UHSPA REPRESENTATIVE on the UHS Site Council
The UHS Site Council is made up of the UHS Principal, faculty, and student and parent representatives who make decisions regarding a wide range of school issues. This group is also part of the hiring process for new administration. Site Council meets one Tuesday a month (currently the second) from 3:30 to 5pm. Meetings can be attended virtually or in person. Donate to the UHS Parents’ Association Annual Fund
Every dollar you contribute will directly benefit all UHS students and faculty throughout the school year and may be tax deductible as we are a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, charitable organization (TAX ID# 94-2848207).
The UHSPA’s primary mission is to assist students and their families during their four years at University High School, fostering a learning environment and support systems that contribute to students’ academic success while helping them prepare for college.
The University High School Parents’ Association (UHSPA) was established in 1982 (UHS was founded in 1976). All parents of current UHS students are automatically members of the UHSPA. Only UHSPA board members vote on issues presented at UHS Parents’ Association meetings. Each grade level has 8 parent board representatives.
